Turquoise jewellery and amulets have been found in many of the Ancient Civilizations such as Egyptian, Aztecs, Chinese and Persians for centuries. Turquoise is one of the oldest known gem stones and it was considered sacred as it was the colour of the sky and represented heaven.

The Ancient Egyptians called turquoise Mefkat which meant joy and delight and they revered the crystal for bringing abundance and good fortune, as well as protection. Turquoise was dedicated to the Goddess Hathor, the Goddess of sound and music, and when we visited her temple at Dendera in Egypt it was so amazing to see the walls of her temple had also been painted turquoise.

Turquoise has many tones and hues and many of the North American turquoise crystals can be identified down to the mine it comes from simply by the amount of colour and how many copper lines run through. Turquoise can range from the pale turquoise colours to rich sky blue and to the shades of green, depending on the amount of copper present.

This beautiful turquoise ring was created with a sterling silver (925 silver) setting.

Each piece of turquoise used in these rings and pendants was hand-selected by Berto on our travels in Egypt and each pendant, created by him with love and intention.
